Pune, March 22: India’s Vice President, C.P. Radhakrishnan, addressed the 81st anniversary of the Naturopathy Ashram located in Uruli Kanchan, Pune, on Sunday. He highlighted the significant role of naturopathy, yoga, and nature-based lifestyles in building a healthy India.
The Vice President noted that Mahatma Gandhi envisioned this ashram, which was realized through the generosity of a farmer who donated his land. Both Gandhi and the farmer deserve the nation’s gratitude. He described the ashram not merely as an institution but as a movement, philosophy, and way of life inspired by Gandhi’s principles of harmony with nature, simplicity, and discipline. Gandhi regarded nature as the greatest healer, believing that true health lies in simplicity, discipline, and harmony with nature.
In light of the increasing burden of lifestyle-related diseases, the Vice President remarked that the message of the Naturopathy Ashram is more relevant than ever. Health is not just the absence of disease but a state of complete well-being on physical, mental, and spiritual levels. He urged people to adopt a balanced diet, regular exercise, mental peace, and a nature-friendly lifestyle.
Reflecting on his tenure as Governor of Jharkhand and Maharashtra, he mentioned the rich tradition of indigenous and natural healing practices prevalent among tribal communities. These ancient methods reflect India’s civilizational wisdom. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the Ministry of AYUSH has given traditional medicine global recognition. Yoga and naturopathy are not alternatives to modern medicine but strong complements to it. These Indian systems are invaluable gifts to the world, promoting medical and wellness tourism.
The Vice President stated that in today’s fast-paced world, people often seek happiness in material success, but true satisfaction comes from peace, balance, and harmony. A healthy individual leads to a strong family, a strong family to a prosperous society, and a prosperous society to a powerful nation. The vision of a developed India aligns with the goal of a ‘Healthy India,’ where institutions like the Naturopathy Ashram will play a crucial role.
During the ceremony, the Vice President paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and the ashram’s founder, Manibhai Desai. He also launched the book “Secrets of Our Happiness,” written by Dr. Narayan Hegde.
Notable attendees included Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Harivansh, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Sunetra Ajit Pawar, and Vice Chairperson of the Legislative Council Dr. Neelam Gorhe.
