Venkatesh Prasad Denies BCCI Involvement in Commentary Exit

New Delhi, March 21: Former Indian cricket team spinner Venkatesh Prasad has clarified that his decision to step away from commentary ahead of IPL 2026 does not involve the BCCI or Jay Shah.

Prasad took to X to express, “Do not involve the BCCI administration in this. It is a one-on-one matter with a BCCI employee. Jay Shah and company have nothing to do with it.”

On March 20, Prasad announced the end of his long tenure as a commentator with the BCCI.

He alleged that despite being associated for over two decades, he was sidelined from several key on-air opportunities. He specifically mentioned being consistently overlooked for toss presentations and post-match shows.

Prasad raised a question, “If I haven’t been used for toss and presentations in 23 years, what could be the reason behind it?”

The former leg-spinner hinted at discrimination, agreeing with a user’s comment about racial bias, stating, “You are right, it’s color discrimination.”

For the past two decades, Prasad has been a prominent and trusted face on the commentary panel. His analysis is highly regarded by fellow commentators, which has led to growing curiosity about the reasons behind his sudden resignation.

Amid increasing criticism, Prasad reiterated that his decision is personal, emphasizing his desire to maintain control over his professional life.

Venkatesh Prasad played 9 Tests and 16 ODIs for India between 1985 and 1987, taking 26 wickets in Tests and 15 in ODIs.
