Vaibhav Suryavanshi Could Replace Samson as India Eyes Second T20 Win Against New Zealand
India aims for a second T20 victory over New Zealand, with Vaibhav Suryavanshi potentially stepping in for the injured Ishan Kishan.

Christchurch, October 24 (Daily Kiran) : The second T20 match between India and New Zealand is set to take place at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Saturday at 12:30 PM IST. This is the same venue where India secured a thrilling four-wicket victory in the first match. Vaibhav Suryavanshi is likely to be included in the lineup for this game.
Suryavanshi has been waiting for his chance after being sidelined for a long period. He missed all five matches during the West Indies series and did not play in the first T20 against New Zealand. However, the injury to Ishan Kishan may open the door for Suryavanshi’s return to the playing XI.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Friday via social media that Kishan will not participate in the second T20 due to his injury. With Kishan out, Suryavanshi’s name has emerged as the top contender to fill the batting slot. His inclusion seems highly probable.
If Suryavanshi is given the opportunity to play, it will directly impact Sanju Samson’s batting position. Samson may need to move from his opening role to bat at number three. This adjustment appears to be the only way to accommodate Suryavanshi into the team. Samson has previously batted at three for both India and in the IPL, making this transition feasible. Therefore, Abhishek and Suryavanshi could open the innings, allowing Samson to come in at a crucial stage.
Suryavanshi made his international debut in T20 cricket on July 4, 2026, against England. In his eight innings to date, he has scored 246 runs, including two half-centuries, with a highest score of 81. He was named Player of the Tournament during the T20 series against Zimbabwe.
Should Suryavanshi take the field in the second T20, cricket fans worldwide will be keenly watching his performance. Meanwhile, the Indian team is determined to secure a 2-0 lead in the series with a victory in this match.
