Lucknow, August 16: On the eighth death anniversary of former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid homage by laying a wreath at his statue in Lok Bhawan, the capital of Uttar Pradesh.
During the tribute, the Chief Minister highlighted Vajpayee’s remarkable six-decade public life, which was deeply rooted in the spirit of putting the nation first. He described Vajpayee as a unique personality in Indian politics, who prioritized national interest above all else and set an example of integrity, democratic values, and national commitment.
Yogi emphasized that Vajpayee’s public life was unblemished and transcended mere political power. His decisions consistently reflected a commitment to the nation. The Chief Minister noted that Vajpayee valued the country over party affiliations, serving in various roles such as MP, Foreign Minister, National President of the Bharatiya Janata Sangh and the Bharatiya Janata Party, Leader of the Opposition, and Prime Minister, always keeping national service as his highest goal.
Vajpayee began his public career with a satyagraha against Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir under the leadership of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee. He established himself as a nationalist leader in Indian politics, where ideology and national interest were paramount.
The Chief Minister recalled Vajpayee’s active role in defending democracy during the Emergency and his support for national unity during wars in 1962, 1965, and 1971, standing firmly with the government on issues of national security. He ensured that political differences never overshadowed national interest.
Yogi stated that while there was opposition in Vajpayee’s politics, there was no animosity. His speeches were powerful, yet his language remained respectful. This is why he earned the title of ‘Ajatshatru’ in Indian politics. He not only strengthened democratic values but also promoted a tradition of respecting political dissent.
As Prime Minister, Vajpayee redirected the nation’s strategic and economic power. The Pokhran nuclear tests showcased India’s military capabilities, while projects like the Golden Quadrilateral revitalized the country’s infrastructure. His vision laid a strong foundation for India’s development.
The Chief Minister concluded that Vajpayee’s personality, achievements, and dedication to the nation continue to inspire citizens today. His life sends a clear message that the ultimate goal of politics should not be power, but rather national service and public welfare. Upholding his ideals and striving to make the country developed and self-reliant would be the truest tribute to him.
