Noida, August 14: The three-day India Bioenergy and Tech Expo (IBET) 2026 concluded in Gautam Buddh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday. The expo showcased approximately ₹15,000 crore in investment promises and memorandums of understanding in the bioenergy sector, strengthening the state’s potential in green energy and bioenergy.
The event underscored Uttar Pradesh’s rapid emergence as a leading bioenergy investment hub in the country. Organized by the Indian Federation of Green Energy and the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency, the expo attracted policymakers from both central and state governments, investors, tech companies, entrepreneurs, and industry experts. Discussions during the event spanned investment and technological opportunities in areas such as compressed biogas (CBG), ethanol, biomass, biodiesel, waste-to-energy, bio-mobility, biomaterials, and sustainable aviation fuel.
On the final day, a special session titled “Green Energy and Income Opportunities for Farmers” was held. Experts and industry representatives discussed how agricultural residues could be transformed into energy, creating additional income sources for farmers. Emphasis was placed on developing a robust feedstock supply chain, enhancing coordination between farmers and industries, and establishing practical bioenergy business models in rural areas.
Experts believe that agricultural residues, such as stubble, can be transformed from a problem into an economic resource. The expansion of CBG plants is expected to improve the utilization of agricultural waste while generating new employment and income opportunities in rural areas. The state government reiterated its commitment to promoting investment in the bioenergy sector. Energy and Additional Energy Sources Minister A.K. Sharma highlighted the crucial role of CBG in increasing farmers’ income, creating jobs in rural areas, and converting agricultural waste into economic assets.
Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi reported that approximately ₹3,500 crore has already been invested in Uttar Pradesh’s CBG sector, resulting in the creation of around 25,000 jobs. He noted that there are plans to establish 70 to 80 more CBG plants in the state, which is expected to benefit bioenergy production and the rural economy. High-level discussions during the first two days focused on India’s bioenergy roadmap, Uttar Pradesh’s investment potential, and the role of CBG in converting agricultural waste into valuable resources.
The event was attended by senior officials from both central and state governments, including Energy and Additional Energy Sources Minister A.K. Sharma, Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi, and State Minister Kailash Singh Rajput.
Sanjay Ganjoo, Director General of the Indian Federation of Green Energy, stated that the bioenergy opportunity in India is no longer limited to policy goals; it has become a significant area for real investment and business. He emphasized that the next phase will prioritize project expansion, strengthening the feedstock supply chain, connecting farmers to the value chain, and developing bankable business models for financial assistance.
With the conclusion of IBET 2026, organizers described it as a significant milestone for the country’s bioenergy ecosystem. The interest shown by investors indicates that the role of bioenergy in India’s clean energy transition is continually growing. The expansion of bioenergy can benefit multiple sectors, including agricultural residue utilization, waste management, rural employment, additional income for farmers, and national energy security. The potential investment of around ₹15,000 crore is expected to accelerate new projects, technological advancements, and job opportunities in Uttar Pradesh.
