Washington: Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, US President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Iran on Wednesday, urging the country to move swiftly towards dialogue. This statement comes as a large and powerful US naval fleet advances towards the region, increasing pressure on Tehran.
In an interview with radio host Sid Rosenberg on WABC, Trump said, “We have a large armada heading there right now.” He described it as “very powerful” and larger than the recent US military deployment to Venezuela. However, he expressed hope that military force would not be necessary, stating, “Hopefully we won’t have to use it.”
Repeating his warning on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote, “A massive armada is moving towards Iran. It is advancing rapidly with full strength, enthusiasm, and purpose.” He added that the fleet is led by the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln and is significantly larger than the one sent to Venezuela.
Trump emphasized that this military force is “fully prepared to complete its mission with speed and decisive action if needed.” He appealed to Iran to come to the negotiating table soon and reach a fair and balanced agreement that benefits all parties involved.
He cautioned, “Time is running out fast; this is critical.”
Warning of serious consequences if talks fail, Trump referenced previous US military action against Iran, saying, “I told Iran to make a deal before. They did not, and Operation Midnight Hammer caused heavy damage. The next strike will be far more dangerous.”
During the radio interview, Trump linked the deployment to regional security concerns, especially regarding Israel. He noted that Iran has continually threatened Israel, and the US support has prevented the situation from worsening. Trump also referred to recent events prompting Israel to temporarily close its airspace.
He further stated that his administration has ensured the return of hostages, saying, “We have brought back the last hostages. Today, the remains of the last deceased were also returned.” He described this as a task once considered impossible.
Trump framed his approach to Iran as part of a broader foreign policy strategy based on military strength and direct negotiation. He stressed that the US uses its power not to ignite war but to prevent it, while keeping the option of force open if necessary.
Comparing the Iran crisis with global conflicts like the war in Ukraine, which he called a “bloody war,” Trump expressed a desire to end such conflicts through direct dialogue and peaceful resolution.
