New Delhi, June 3: The United States has intensified its pressure on Iran by imposing new sanctions on the country’s largest cryptocurrency exchange and several related entities. This action comes at a time when attempts at dialogue between the two nations are ongoing.
According to a report from the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), the US has initiated a new round of sanctions against Iran.
On Tuesday, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Treasury Department announced that four individuals and four entities linked to Iran have been added to the US sanctions list.
The Treasury Department stated that all four individuals are associated with Iran’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, ‘Nobitex’. Additionally, three other companies operating in the financial and crypto services sector—Bitpin, Ramjinex, and Valex—are also included in these sanctions.
The Treasury reiterated previous allegations against Iran, stating that OFAC has imposed restrictions on ‘Nobitex’ and three other digital asset exchanges. This move is part of the ‘Economic Fury’ campaign, which was initiated by former President Donald Trump to counter perceived threats from Iran.
These new sanctions have been imposed while the Trump administration is attempting to reach an agreement with Iran. Reports suggest that diplomatic efforts are ongoing after military actions to achieve objectives against Tehran have failed.
According to published reports, an initial understanding was reached last week between Tehran and Washington. This included a gradual reduction of US maritime pressure on Iran in exchange for fully reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Following speculation about the failure of negotiations between the two countries, President Donald Trump stated that he is not particularly concerned about Iran potentially halting ongoing talks.
When asked if negotiations with Iran had ended, Trump replied, “To be honest, I don’t care if the talks are over or not. I really don’t care.”
