Two Law Students Arrested for Disruption in Supreme Court Incident

New Delhi, July 15: The Delhi Police have arrested two law students from Lucknow University in connection with the alleged disruption and chaos that occurred in the Supreme Court on July 10. An FIR was registered at the Tilak Marg police station based on statements from the Supreme Court security staff.

According to police reports, the incident took place during the hearing of Special Leave Petition No. 31367/2026 (Prabal Pratap and Others vs. State of Uttar Pradesh, through the Commissioner) in Court Number 13. It is alleged that Prabal Pratap, appearing as a petitioner, deliberately used offensive language during the court proceedings. He also attempted to create disorder by throwing papers inside the courtroom.

When Supreme Court security personnel and staff attempted to maintain order and uphold the dignity of the court, he reportedly assaulted a duty officer, obstructing government work. This incident has raised concerns about security arrangements within the court premises.

Following comments from the Supreme Court, both accused underwent a medical examination at the Institute of Human Behavior and Allied Sciences. The medical report indicated that neither required immediate psychiatric treatment. During the investigation, police also recovered pamphlets containing inappropriate language from the accused.

The Delhi Police presented both individuals in court, where they were remanded to police custody for two days. The arrested individuals have been identified as Prabal Pratap Singh (24), a third-year law student, and Chandra Bhan (23), a second-year law student. Police are currently interrogating them to explore various aspects of the case. Authorities have stated that a thorough investigation into all facts and potential motives related to the incident is ongoing, and necessary legal actions will be taken.
