Motihari, July 11: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, police in the East Champaran district of Bihar have arrested two traffickers with 97 grams of smack. Authorities are currently investigating the entire network based on information obtained from the arrested suspects, and raids are ongoing to apprehend other traffickers.
According to police, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Manish Anand received a tip-off regarding the smuggling of smack in the area. After verifying the information, a special police team was formed under his leadership. The team conducted a raid at a suspicious location on Kothi Road in the Ramgarhwa police station area, leading to the detention of Sonu Kumar and Ajay Mahto.
During interrogation, the suspects provided information about the hiding place of the smack. Following their directions, police recovered 97 grams of smack from a pit near a hand pump by a pond on Kothi Road. The seized narcotics were confiscated, and a case was registered against both suspects under relevant sections of the NDPS Act at the Ramgarhwa police station, leading to their judicial custody.
According to Ramgarhwa police, initial investigations suggest that this case is linked to an organized trafficking network. Based on information from the arrested individuals, efforts are underway to identify the mastermind behind this operation and other accomplices. Continuous raids are being conducted at potential hideouts for their arrest.
Notably, on June 13, police and the Special Task Force achieved significant success in the Dumaria Ghat police station area when they seized 10.540 kilograms of opium from an Ertiga car during an operation against drug traffickers. Four individuals were arrested in that case.
