Washington, March 26: The White House has announced that U.S. President Donald Trump will travel to Beijing on May 14-15 for a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. This visit signals a renewal of high-level cooperation between the world’s two largest economies amid rising global tensions.
White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt stated on Wednesday that the much-anticipated meeting will take place in Beijing, with plans for a reciprocal visit to Washington later this year.
“I am pleased to announce that the meeting between President Trump and President Xi in China will now take place on May 14 and 15,” Levitt said.
She further noted that First Lady Melania Trump and President Donald Trump will host President Xi and Peng Liyuan during their return trip to Washington.

According to the White House, the visit was rescheduled following discussions between the two leaders, during which Beijing acknowledged the necessity of President Trump remaining in Washington during the conflict.

She clarified that the timing of the meeting was not tied to any specific outcome of the Iran conflict.
When asked if the end of the war was a prerequisite for the summit, she responded, “No, discussions were held about the rescheduling of the meeting. President Xi understood and accepted the request for postponement.”
The meeting is expected to occur while Washington continues its military operations against Iran, with the administration indicating that the campaign is progressing ahead of schedule.
Levitt mentioned that officials initially estimated a timeline of four to six weeks for the Iran campaign, suggesting that the conflict may still be ongoing by the time the summit takes place.
