Trump Highlights Small Businesses as Backbone of American Economy

Washington, May 5: President Donald Trump emphasized that small businesses are the backbone of the American economy, attributing their growth to tax cuts, regulatory relief, and tariffs. Speaking during National Small Business Week, Trump stated that this sector plays a central role in economic activity. “The people in this room represent 36 million small businesses that account for 40 percent of all economic activity in the United States,” he remarked.

Trump described small businesses as the nation’s most vital economic force, asserting, “You are truly the most critical factor for business across the country.” He noted that tax relief has significantly benefited small firms, with 12 million American small businesses receiving an average tax cut of over $7,000, resulting in substantial savings.

During his address, Trump also mentioned policies such as “no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, and no tax on Social Security,” highlighting their importance for workers and business owners alike. He criticized previous economic policies, claiming that small businesses were severely impacted by the worst inflation in American history.

The President asserted that his administration has reduced regulatory burdens, stating, “For every new regulation, we have eliminated 129 old ones.” He framed this initiative as a major effort to lower compliance costs. According to Trump, these policies are strengthening the economy, with business investments increasing more than threefold.

He pointed out the benefits in the labor market, stating, “More Americans are working today than at any time in our history.” Trump noted that small businesses play a crucial role in job creation, with two out of three new jobs being generated by them.

He linked the growth of small businesses to improvements in manufacturing and highlighted the rapid pace of factory construction, saying, “We have never seen such a surge in factory construction as we are witnessing now.”

Trump also stressed the importance of access to finance, revealing that the Small Business Administration has provided billions in loans to startups and manufacturers. He described the current economic climate as a turning point, declaring, “This is America’s golden era.”

The focus on small businesses comes at a time when policymakers are striving to maintain growth amid global economic uncertainty. In India, small and medium enterprises similarly serve as the backbone of employment and production, prompting industry and policymakers to closely monitor American policy trends.

Small businesses represent a significant portion of economic activities in both countries, underscoring their importance in fostering innovation, job creation, and long-term growth.
