Washington, April 7: President Donald Trump defended the ongoing war with Iran on Monday, asserting that the conflict is solely aimed at preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons. He stated that if Iran agrees to the U.S. conditions, the war could conclude swiftly.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump remarked, “They are foolish because this war is only about one thing: Iran must not have nuclear weapons.”
He explained that fulfilling certain U.S. demands could lead to a rapid resolution of the conflict.
Trump linked the current war to his earlier decision to withdraw from the Obama-era nuclear deal, claiming, “If we hadn’t broken Barack Hussein Obama’s agreement, Israel would have been finished.”
He also asserted that U.S. actions have altered Iran’s leadership structure. “We have completely changed the government. The first government was eliminated. The second government was also removed. Now, those negotiating with the U.S. are much more reasonable,” Trump stated, emphasizing that discussions with Iran are taking place in good faith.
He noted that Iran’s military capabilities have significantly diminished, saying, “They cannot fight back. They have no capacity left. They have some missiles and drones, but essentially no power remains.”
The President referenced a recent mission to rescue two American pilots from Iran, labeling it a demonstration of U.S. military strength. “We brought back not one, but two people safely,” he said.
Trump reiterated that the U.S. still has various options available. “We can still withdraw, and it will take them 15 years to rebuild their strength, but I want to end this,” he added.
He concluded by reiterating that the war is about preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear power.
