Trump Calls for Quick Resumption of White House Correspondents Dinner

Washington, April 27: President Donald Trump has urged for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner to be held again within 30 days. He emphasized that the long-standing event, which celebrates press freedom, should not be disrupted by the actions of a “madman.”

In an interview with CBS’s “60 Minutes,” Trump expressed his desire for the annual event to be rescheduled as soon as possible, with enhanced security measures in place following a shooting incident near the venue.

“I want them to do it again. We cannot let something like this end the event. I believe it is crucial that they hold it again,” he stated.

Trump assured that security would be improved for the next gathering. “This time, there will be more security, a larger perimeter, and everything will be fine,” he added.

The incident occurred late Saturday night at a hotel in Washington, where over 2,500 attendees, including high-ranking government officials, lawmakers, diplomats, and journalists, were present. Security personnel quickly apprehended the suspect, and fortunately, no one was injured.

Trump mentioned that he had advised the organizers to continue with the event if possible, insisting that such incidents should not lead to cancellations. “I don’t want a madman to cancel such events,” he remarked.

He also noted a sense of unity among those present during the attack, describing it as a positive sight. “I saw an atmosphere where everyone was united. In a way, it was a very good scene,” he said.

However, Trump criticized parts of the American media, stating that some outlets are “too liberal or progressive,” while acknowledging that there are many good and fair journalists in the press.

Once again, Trump supported the continuation of the dinner, a tradition seen as a symbol of the First Amendment and the relationship between the presidency and the press.

Typically, the event brings together political leaders, journalists, and public figures, featuring formal speeches, light-hearted humor, and discussions on the role of media.
