Washington, May 28: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the Trump administration is actively working to prevent the spread of Ebola virus infections in the United States. This statement comes amid growing concerns over rising Ebola cases in parts of Africa.
During a cabinet meeting chaired by President Donald Trump at the White House on Wednesday, Rubio emphasized that the government’s top priority is to protect Americans from any potential infections. He stated, “We will not allow any cases of Ebola to enter the United States under any circumstances.”
Rubio explained that the State Department, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and several other agencies are collaborating in regions where the disease is prevalent, particularly in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to contain the outbreak.
“We have increased aid and resources there to control the disease on-site,” Rubio added. He also noted that U.S. agencies are continuously monitoring travelers and borders to ensure that no infected individuals can enter the country.
Rubio reassured American citizens that the President and his administration are taking every possible measure to ensure their safety. During the cabinet meeting, President Trump did not elaborate extensively on the Ebola issue, as the discussion primarily focused on topics such as Iran, immigration, energy policy, defense spending, and investigations into government fraud.
Additionally, Rubio mentioned that the U.S. has reached agreements with 20 countries to accept individuals who have been deported from America. This step is part of a broader effort to tighten immigration regulations.
The administration has linked health security to foreign policy, with Rubio stating that the foremost priority of U.S. foreign policy is the safety of its citizens. The Democratic Republic of the Congo has experienced several Ebola outbreaks in recent years, prompting responses from the local government, the World Health Organization, and other partner nations.
Ebola is a highly contagious viral disease that can spread through direct contact with the bodily fluids of an infected person, and it has a high mortality rate in severe cases.
