Bengaluru, August 15: A tragic incident occurred in Chikkaballapur, Karnataka, on Independence Day, where a private bus collided with a motorcycle. This accident resulted in the death of a first-year pre-university student and left two others seriously injured.
The collision took place near the Katamachanahalli Gate on the Chintamani-Bengaluru Road. The victim, 16-year-old Deepika from the village of R. Gollahalli in Kolar district, lost her life in the accident. Another student, Tripura, also 16, sustained severe head injuries and was transferred to NIMHANS (National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences) in Bengaluru for advanced treatment. Meanwhile, Smita, also 16, suffered a broken leg and is currently receiving care at SNR Hospital in Kolar.
All three students were enrolled in a private college in Chintamani and were heading to the Kavara Temple on their two-wheeler after participating in the Independence Day celebrations.
According to police reports, the students were attempting to make a U-turn near the Katamachanahalli Gate when a speeding private bus struck their motorcycle from behind. The impact was so severe that the motorcycle became lodged under the bus and was completely mangled.
Upon receiving news of the incident, the Chintamani Rural Police visited the scene and initiated an investigation. It has been reported that the bus driver fled the scene after the accident. Authorities have filed a case and are continuing their inquiries.
In a related incident, another severe road accident occurred on the same day in Latehar district, Jharkhand, where approximately seven people lost their lives. Many others were seriously injured in this accident, which took place near the Lukuiya Valley on the Lohardaga-Chandwa main road.
A speeding container truck, coming from Lohardaga, lost control and first collided with a motorcycle. Subsequently, the container overturned onto a passenger tempo filled with travelers. The scene was chaotic, with cries for help as the motorcycle and tempo were crushed beneath the container.
Local residents immediately began rescue operations. Police and administrative teams arrived shortly after being notified of the incident. It took considerable effort to extricate those trapped under the container and damaged vehicles. The injured were promptly transported to the Chandwa Community Health Center.
