Tragic Road Accident Claims Life of Indian Student in Chicago

Chicago, May 18: A tragic road accident near Chicago has resulted in the death of a 25-year-old Indian student, while six others sustained injuries. Authorities confirmed the incident on Monday.

According to police, the accident occurred late Saturday night on Interstate 65 in Lake County, Indiana.

Local media identified the deceased student as Navya Gadusu. The Lake County coroner’s office confirmed that she was pronounced dead at 12:16 AM on Sunday.

Officials reported that Gadusu died due to severe injuries sustained in the crash.

The Indian Consulate in Chicago expressed deep sorrow over the student’s death and stated that they are in continuous contact with the victim’s family.

In a post on the social media platform X, the consulate wrote, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Indian student Navya Gadusu in a road accident near Chicago. Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family and friends during this difficult time. The consulate is in touch with the deceased’s family and is also coordinating with friends and community members assisting those injured in the accident.”

According to the Indiana State Police, the accident occurred around 11:15 PM on Saturday. Investigators revealed that a red minivan carrying seven adults was traveling at a very slow speed of about 10 to 15 miles per hour behind another vehicle, which reportedly had some technical issues.

Police stated that the driver of another car approaching from behind failed to recognize the minivan’s slow speed and attempted to swerve left to avoid a collision.

However, officials noted that the vehicle struck the left side of the minivan with significant force, causing it to veer off the road and into a ditch.

Authorities clarified that the vehicle with technical issues, which the minivan was following, was not involved in the collision.

Additional information released during the investigation revealed that the minivan was equipped with only two front seats. The Indiana State Police is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
