Tragic Incident at Dhurwa Dam: BBA Student Takes Her Life

Ranchi, March 19: A tragic incident occurred at Dhurwa Dam in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, where an 18-year-old student took her own life on Thursday evening. The deceased has been identified as Nimisha Jha, a resident of Sel City in the Pundag OP area.

Nimisha was a BBA student at Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) in Lalpur Extension. Eyewitnesses reported seeing her alone by the dam’s edge earlier in the afternoon. Before anyone could react or attempt to stop her, she suddenly jumped into the deep water. Local residents raised an alarm, prompting immediate notification of the Nagdi police, who initiated a rescue operation.

Upon receiving the information, the Nagdi police chief arrived at the scene with a team, and local divers began searching for the student. After extensive efforts and hours of searching, divers eventually recovered her body from the water. As news of her identification reached her family in Sel City, they were engulfed in grief and rushed to Dhurwa Dam, where police completed the necessary paperwork.

This tragic act has sent shockwaves through her classmates and the BIT campus. The police have taken custody of the body and sent it for post-mortem examination at RIMS.

According to the Nagdi police, the initial investigation has not revealed clear reasons for the suicide. It remains unconfirmed whether a suicide note was found at the scene. Authorities are currently examining the deceased’s mobile phone call details and social media accounts to determine if she had been experiencing any mental distress in recent days.

Family and friends are also being questioned. Local residents have expressed concerns regarding safety and surveillance in the dam area.
