
Mumbai, May 2: A tragic hit-and-run incident has occurred in the Powai area of Mumbai. A speeding tempo struck several workers who were working by the roadside and then fled the scene. Three individuals sustained serious injuries and have been admitted to a nearby hospital.
The incident took place in Morarji Nagar, where a contractor appointed by the Mumbai Municipal Corporation had deployed a team of workers for sewer cleaning. Initial reports indicate that while the workers were engaged in their cleaning tasks, a fast-moving tempo collided with them. The driver fled immediately without offering any assistance to the injured.
According to police officials, the Powai police have registered a case against the unidentified driver. A search operation has been initiated to locate and apprehend the suspect. The contractor has been taken into custody for questioning, and an investigation is underway to determine any negligence regarding safety regulations at the site.
Earlier, on Friday, a separate hit-and-run incident near the Majiwada Junction in Thane resulted in the death of a woman. The victim worked at a nearby residential complex and was attempting to cross the busy Mumbai-Nashik highway while returning home to Mumbra.
Police reported that the woman had reached the other side of the highway to board a public vehicle but misjudged the speed of oncoming traffic. She was struck by a tempo, whose driver also fled the scene. Authorities stated that the woman was taken to Kalwa Government Hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
