Tragic Explosion at Firecracker Factory in Palghar Claims Two Lives

Mumbai, April 21: A devastating incident occurred in Palghar, Maharashtra, where an explosion at a firecracker factory resulted in the tragic deaths of two workers. Several others sustained serious injuries in the blast that took place on Tuesday afternoon in the village of Konsai, under the Wada taluka. Reports indicate that the explosion happened at an illegally operated unit producing sutli bombs, shaking the entire area.

The deceased were both laborers employed at the factory, while 4 to 5 additional workers were critically injured. Following the explosion, chaos erupted in the vicinity.

Vivekanand Kadam, the district disaster management officer, reported that the blast occurred around noon inside a tin shed at an old farmhouse, where sutli bombs were being manufactured. The force of the explosion was so intense that it instilled fear in the surrounding community. Injured workers were promptly admitted to Wada Rural Hospital for treatment. Among them, three were hospitalized in Wada, while one seriously injured worker was referred to Bhiwandi Rural Hospital. Firefighters, the tehsildar, the chief officer, and police teams arrived at the scene to conduct rescue operations. An investigation into the incident has been initiated by the authorities.

The unit was reportedly established on April 10, 2026, by Narendra Singh and his associate Yadav. Raw materials for firecracker production were being sourced, and workers were hired on a daily wage basis. The local operations and oversight of the unit were managed by Yogesh Dattatray Mokashi. Workers from Jamghar, Konsai, Palasai, and Alman villages were temporarily brought in and trained for the job. Approximately 32 workers were employed at the unit daily. Currently, one worker’s death has been confirmed, while treatment for the other injured individuals continues. The administration is also investigating whether the unit was operating legally or illegally.
