Tragic Crash of US KC-135 Refueling Aircraft in Iraq Claims Six Lives

Washington, March 14: The U.S. military has confirmed that all six crew members aboard a KC-135 refueling aircraft died in a crash in western Iraq. The incident occurred during a military mission while the aircraft was flying in a friendly airspace as part of Operation Epic Fury.

According to a statement from U.S. Central Command, “All six crew members aboard the downed U.S. KC-135 in western Iraq have been confirmed deceased.” An investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the crash. Preliminary information suggests that the incident was not related to enemy activity, and the circumstances surrounding the event are under review.

The identities of the six service members have not yet been released. U.S. military officials stated that they are following standard procedures before making names public. The identities will be disclosed 24 hours after notifying the next of kin.

Media reports indicate that flight tracking data revealed the KC-135 declared an emergency shortly before the crash. The aircraft went down shortly thereafter.

The KC-135 is a refueling aircraft used by the U.S. Air Force to extend the range and endurance of combat and surveillance aircraft during operations. Typically, it is operated by a crew for flight operations and aerial refueling missions.
