New Delhi, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : A tragic incident occurred in the Satya Niketan area of New Delhi on September 6, when a multi-story building collapsed, leading to the death of one person and the rescue of six others. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited the site to assess the situation and gather reports from officials present.
According to Delhi police, the building was approximately 40 to 50 years old, featuring one basement and five upper floors. It was being used as a paying guest accommodation. At the time of the collapse, repair work was underway in the basement. One resident was pulled from the debris and transported to the trauma department at AIIMS, where they were pronounced dead.
Vinod Jakhar, the National President of the NSUI, reported that they quickly arrived at the scene upon learning of the incident, concerned that one of their members might be trapped. They managed to rescue three individuals from the wreckage.
A student from Delhi University recounted the moment of the collapse, stating that they felt as if an earthquake had struck while they were on the fourth floor. They described the building shaking and dust filling the air. It wasn’t until they came outside that they realized a building had actually fallen. Before emergency services arrived, they and a few others helped pull a person from the rubble.
Another witness described the chaos in the area, noting that parents were frantically calling as concerns for safety grew. They expressed doubts about the security of remaining in the vicinity.
Further reports suggested that there could still be around 20 to 30 people trapped under the debris. One eyewitness mentioned that they had attempted to rescue two children who were alive but tragically found that two others had already succumbed to their injuries.
The situation remains dire as rescuers continue their efforts amidst the wreckage.
