South Delhi, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : A building collapsed in the Satya Niketan area of South Delhi on September 6, raising concerns that several individuals may be trapped beneath the rubble. The incident occurred near the Shiv Temple in the Motibagh locality.
The Delhi Fire Brigade received reports of the collapse around 1:30 PM. Station Officer Narendra arrived at the scene by 1:50 PM and confirmed that the structure had fallen, with people potentially trapped inside. He immediately requested additional support from senior officials and extra personnel.
In response, a specialized rescue team, along with a Big Fire Tender and key personnel including Officer-in-Charge Mukesh Verma and Station Officer Manoj, were dispatched to the site. Rescue operations are currently underway.
Delhi Police confirmed that efforts to rescue those trapped have commenced, though the exact number of individuals affected will be determined later.
This incident echoes a similar tragedy that occurred last month in the Karol Bagh area, where a two-story building collapsed during demolition, resulting in one fatality and three injuries. Preliminary investigations revealed that the building was being demolished by a private contractor hired by the owners, without the necessary permits from relevant authorities. The structure unexpectedly collapsed while workers were on site, leading to their entrapment.
Reports indicate that the Karol Bagh police station received information about that incident around 11:15 AM from the nearby Pyare Lal Road, prompting immediate police response and rescue efforts. Four workers were injured in that collapse as well.
