Una, August 25: A tragic road accident occurred near the famous religious site of Pir Nigah in Una district, Himachal Pradesh, on Tuesday morning. A truck filled with pilgrims lost control and plunged into a deep gorge.
Approximately 50 pilgrims were injured in the incident, which involved men, women, and children. All the injured are residents of the Indri area in Karnal district, Haryana.
According to reports, these pilgrims had visited the Pir Nigah temple two days prior to offer prayers and participate in a community feast. On Tuesday morning, they were en route to the Naina Devi temple when the truck lost control about two kilometers from their destination, overturning near a bend in the road.
The scene was chaotic following the accident, prompting local residents to immediately alert the police and health department, initiating rescue operations.
Thirty of the injured were transported to the regional hospital in Una. A doctor at the hospital stated, “We have received around 30 injured individuals. One of them is in critical condition and has been referred after receiving initial treatment. The others are currently being treated. Our entire medical team is dedicated to their care.”
In an interview with the media, injured pilgrim Nandlal recounted, “We had come to Pir Nigah, and the vehicle fell into the gorge near a bend.” Another pilgrim, Somnath, added, “We were returning after offering prayers at Pir Nigah. As the vehicle was descending, it overturned into the gorge.”
