TMC Files Complaint Against BJPs Shuvendu Adhikari Over Alleged Election Code Violation

Kolkata, March 26: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has lodged a complaint with the Chief Election Officer against BJP candidate Shuvendu Adhikari and other party members for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

In their complaint, TMC stated that during the enforcement of the MCC following the announcement of the election schedule, a rally led by BJP’s Shuvendu Adhikari passed through the Boyal-II Gram Panchayat area in the Nandigram constituency of East Medinipur district. Reports indicate that as the rally passed directly in front of TMC candidate Pavitro Kar’s residence, Adhikari and other BJP leaders/supporters shouted slogans branding the candidate as a ‘thief.’

TMC accused Adhikari’s leadership of employing intimidation tactics aimed at manipulating the electorate and infringing upon their right to vote freely. They claimed that a hostile and pressurized electoral atmosphere was created around the candidate’s home, hindering the free exercise of electoral rights.

The party emphasized that such actions disrupt the electoral environment and undermine the integrity of the election process. They warned that if these practices are not curtailed, it would instill fear in voters, preventing them from exercising their electoral rights freely. Furthermore, such intimidation tactics would also create an uneven playing field among candidates contesting the elections.

TMC asserted that under Article 324 of the Indian Constitution, it is the responsibility of the Election Commission of India to ensure that elections are conducted fairly and freely. Any actions that interfere with this process must be addressed promptly and decisively.
