Mumbai, April 5: Mumbai police have arrested three suspects involved in a significant gas cylinder theft ring in the Powai area. The main accused, Raj Chandrakant Kamble (45), along with his two accomplices, was apprehended during the operation. Authorities recovered a total of 45 gas cylinders and three stolen motorcycles, which were taken from various locations in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Thane.
According to a press release from the Mumbai police, recent conflicts in Gulf countries have raised concerns among citizens regarding the availability of gas cylinders. Such thefts have added to the public’s distress during this challenging time.
The case came to light after a complaint was filed about a motorcycle theft in the Powai police station area. Investigations revealed that the stolen bike was used by the suspects to carry out the gas cylinder thefts. Following this, police registered a formal complaint and launched an investigation.
The police team meticulously analyzed local CCTV footage and identified the suspects based on technical evidence. A raid in the Vartak Nagar area of Thane led to the capture of one suspect, who subsequently provided information that helped in the arrest of the other accomplices. During the investigation, police seized three motorcycles and 45 gas cylinders, which had been stolen from different areas. Interrogation revealed that the suspects had been engaged in such criminal activities for an extended period.
Police records indicate that the main accused, Raj Chandrakant Kamble, has over ten criminal cases registered against him at various police stations in Mumbai and beyond. Currently, the Powai police are investigating the entire network to identify any additional members involved in the gang.
