New Delhi, March 15: The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported on Sunday that worsening conditions in Iran are forcing many individuals to flee their homes for other countries. Numerous buildings related to housing and essential services have been destroyed in various cities, prompting people to seek safer locations.
According to the report, many are heading towards the northern regions of the country, believing those areas may offer more security. The agency noted that individuals are seeking refuge in over 20 provinces across Iran, leading to increased pressure on relief camps.
Additionally, many are turning to neighboring countries for safety. Approximately 32,000 people have reached Afghanistan, while around 4,000 have crossed into Pakistan, despite several airports and borders remaining closed.
The head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society reported on Sunday that more than 24,500 public sites across Iran have been damaged due to attacks from the U.S. and Israel. This includes nearly 20,000 residential units, 4,500 commercial centers, and 69 schools.
A statement from Iran’s Health Ministry indicated that at least 202 children and 223 women, including three pregnant women, have lost their lives due to the U.S.-Israel attacks. The Fars News Agency reported that among the deceased, 12 children were under the age of five.
Meanwhile, a significant number of individuals in Israel have also been hospitalized. According to The Times of Israel, the Israeli Health Ministry reported that 108 injured persons were admitted to hospitals in the last 24 hours due to the ongoing conflict with Iran. As of Sunday morning, a total of 3,195 people have been hospitalized since February 28, with 81 still receiving treatment.
