New Delhi, March 28: The police have apprehended a thief caught in the act of burglary in the Preet Vihar area of East Delhi. Stolen household items were also recovered from the suspect.
According to reports, a burglary incident occurred at a residence on Vikas Marg. The complainant, Abdul Basit, discovered broken locks and missing items upon returning home. During this time, he noticed a suspicious individual carrying a green bag near the balcony. Sensing something was off, he raised an alarm, prompting the suspect to flee.
Hearing the commotion, a police patrol team from Preet Vihar station quickly arrived at the scene and, with the help of local residents, apprehended the suspect. The individual was identified as Sohan Kalia, 30, a resident of Chitra Vihar slum. The police team included Head Constable Ram Singh and Constable Bijender.
Police officials reported that upon searching the bag found with the suspect, they recovered several stolen household items. The recovered items included an electric wiring set, bathroom fitting pipes, a hand shower, imitation jewelry, a steel frying pan, an electric juicer, and an extension cord. The complainant was able to identify all the items on the spot.
An FIR has been registered under number 67/2026 at Preet Vihar police station, citing various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). During the investigation, it was revealed that the suspect is a habitual offender, involved in over 35 cases, including theft, snatching, robbery, and vehicle theft.
According to police, the suspect is addicted to drugs and engages in criminal activities to support his habit. Currently, police are interrogating the suspect and continuing efforts to recover additional stolen items. This action reflects the police’s commitment to active policing and crime control in the area.
