London, 23 August (Kiran News): In the men’s edition of The Hundred 2025, Welsh Fire kept their playoff hopes alive with an emphatic eight-wicket win over Birmingham Phoenix on Friday night. With this victory, both teams are now tied on eight points each, with two matches remaining for both sides.

The path to the knockouts, however, remains challenging. Both teams will need to win their remaining fixtures and hope that the third-placed Northern Superchargers drop points. Southern Brave (12 points) and Manchester Originals (8 points) are also in contention in the playoff race.
Phoenix Struggle with the Bat
Birmingham Phoenix, opting to bat first, made a disappointing start. Ben Duckett was dismissed early by Riley Meredith. Joe Clarke and Will Smeed tried to accelerate the scoring, but Ben Kellaway struck to remove Clarke, further denting their innings. The Phoenix stumbled from 58/3 to 85/5. Benny Howell and Jacob Bethell added 39 runs in a late fightback, but the team could only manage 138/9 in their allotted 100 balls.
Smith, Bairstow Lead Fire to Victory
Chasing 139, Welsh Fire got off to a blazing start. Steven Smith and Stephen Eskinazi stitched a 72-run opening stand. Eskinazi scored 42 before getting out, but Smith anchored the innings. Jonny Bairstow smashed a quickfire 35 off 21 balls, pushing the team closer to victory. Captain Tom Abell sealed the win with a boundary.
Brief Scorecard:
-
