Hyderabad, May 6: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has stepped in to assist a bus conductor struggling to perform his duties due to his exceptional height of 6.5 feet.
Ameen Ahmed Ansari was working as a bus conductor at the Mehdi Patnam depot in Hyderabad. However, his height of 198 cm (6.5 feet) made it challenging for him to fulfill his role inside the bus, which has a maximum height of only 6.4 feet.
Due to the limited space, he had to constantly bend down, leading to neck and back pain. He also faced significant difficulties issuing tickets and moving around the bus. With a demanding schedule of at least five trips over a 10-hour shift, his unusual height made the job increasingly difficult. Consequently, he requested the authorities for an alternative role.
Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar brought Ansari’s situation to the attention of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, suggesting that he be assigned a suitable alternative duty within the transport corporation.
After considering his case, the corporation provided Ansari with an out-of-designation duty for one year, which ended on April 28, 2026. Given the challenges he faced, he has now been permitted to serve in an alternative position within the corporation. The state-owned transport body has issued an order allowing Ansari’s services to be utilized in any bus pass section or at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport as needed.
This decision has brought significant relief to Ansari, who was emotionally supported with a job in 2021 after the death of his father, who was also a conductor at the Kachiguda depot.
The assistance provided by the transport corporation in understanding this unique challenge faced by the employee has been widely praised, with many commending the decision.
