Hyderabad, March 22: The Telangana government has allocated ₹9,000 crore under the ‘Rythu Bharosa Scheme’ to provide financial assistance to farmers cultivating on 1.50 acres of land.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced the release of the first installment of ₹3,590 crore during a public meeting held in Narmeta, Siddipet district. This amount will be credited to farmers’ bank accounts on Monday.
He stated that the second installment of ₹2,650 crore will be released within the next 20 days, while the remaining ₹2,760 crore will follow in the subsequent 20 days.
Under this scheme, the state government offers an annual input subsidy of ₹12,000 per acre to farmers to support cultivation costs. Approximately 7 million farmers are expected to benefit from this initiative.
The Chief Minister emphasized that despite financial challenges, the government continues to implement welfare schemes for farmers. He noted that during the previous administration, ₹2,533 crore was spent monthly on farmers’ welfare, whereas the Congress government has increased this expenditure to ₹5,500 crore per month over the past 28 months.
Revanth Reddy expressed the government’s commitment to ensuring farmers see joy in their work by implementing welfare schemes that include profitable pricing for agricultural produce. He remarked that a state where farmers are distressed cannot prosper.
He also mentioned that the government is providing compensation to farmers affected by crop losses. In just two years, the people’s government has spent over ₹1 lakh crore on farmers’ welfare.
The Chief Minister highlighted that Telangana has emerged as the top state in the country for rice production, with the government purchasing 7.1 million tons of rice this season. However, he expressed concern that the central government is not purchasing more than 5 million tons of rice.
Stressing the need for agricultural transformation, he urged farmers to adopt crop diversification. He recalled that in the past, various regions cultivated specific types of crops.
CM Reddy stated, “Farmers need to be encouraged to grow not just rice but a variety of crops. Necessary plans should be formulated for this.”
He assured that with the central government’s cooperation, the state government will ensure that the crops grown by farmers are profitable.
