Hyderabad, April 1: The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau has successfully rescued a 5-year-old girl and arrested her cousin, who was allegedly abusing her.
Director Shikha Goyal announced on Tuesday that the 19-year-old suspect was apprehended under charges related to Child Sexual Exploitative and Abusive Material.
The case emerged when the bureau’s Child Protection Unit investigated evidence received from a tipline concerning child sexual exploitation. It was revealed that the girl’s parents were unaware of the situation.
Goyal stated that this is the second case in 2026 where the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau has saved a minor girl. In both instances, bureau officials identified and arrested the perpetrators.
“It is unfortunate that both accused were known to the victims. In this case, the suspect is the girl’s cousin, whom she innocently referred to as ‘bhaiya’ (brother),” Goyal remarked.
The suspect, identified as Mohammad Fahad, is a second-year student residing in the Chhota Bazaar area of Golconda, Hyderabad.
According to the Cyber Security Bureau Director, the suspect was identified based on videos found on the tipline. During interrogation, he confessed to his crimes, admitting that he frequently visited the girl’s home and took her to the rooftop to commit the abuse. His electronic devices have been seized for further investigation to gather more evidence.
Charges have been filed under Section 67-B of the IT Act and Sections 15, 3, and 4 of the POCSO Act. The accused has been remanded to judicial custody.
Goyal confirmed that the girl is receiving necessary care and support, and her parents are also undergoing counseling.
She emphasized that cases of sexual abuse against children often remain hidden, with most offenders being family members or acquaintances. Therefore, it is crucial to exercise caution regarding who is entrusted with the care of children.
The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau is actively working to prevent such crimes and is utilizing modern technology. Strict and immediate action will be taken against those who harm children.
