Telangana Chief Minister Seeks Support for Irrigation Projects from Union Minister

New Delhi, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met with Union Minister for Water Resources C.R. Patil in New Delhi to discuss critical irrigation projects. The meeting, held on Tuesday evening, aimed to expedite the approval process for the proposed construction of the Tumidihatti Barrage, which has been submitted to the Maharashtra government.

Reddy emphasized the importance of the Tumidihatti Barrage, requesting Patil’s assistance in navigating discussions with Maharashtra officials. He explained that constructing the barrage at a Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 152 meters would facilitate water supply to the Yellampally project through gravity, ultimately reducing both electricity consumption and water supply costs.

During the discussion, the Chief Minister also reviewed pending environmental clearances for several key projects in Telangana. He appealed to Patil for swift approvals for the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme (PRLIS), Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme (DLIS), and the Sitarama Sagar Multipurpose Project (SSMP). Reddy drew attention to new guidelines issued after a recent Supreme Court ruling, urging the central government to expedite approvals to prevent rising construction costs.

Additionally, Reddy requested Patil to fast-track the pending approval process for the Sammakka Sagar project with the Central Water Commission (CWC). He noted that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this initiative has already been submitted, and they are currently negotiating with the Chhattisgarh government for a No Objection Certificate (NOC).

The two leaders also discussed the stalled installation of a telemetry system managed by the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB). Reddy informed Patil that the state government has already deposited ₹4.15 crore for the first phase and urged for rapid completion of all phases of the system installation. The meeting was attended by state minister G. Vivek Venkataswamy, MP Gadham Vamsi Krishna, MLA Gadham Vinod, irrigation advisor Adityanath Das, and the Chief Minister’s secretary Manikraj.
