Tejashwi Yadav Accuses Election Commission of Bias in Bihar

Patna, October 4 (Daily Kiran) : Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the opposition in the Bihar Assembly and national executive president of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has leveled serious accusations against the Election Commission of India and its Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar. He claims that the commission operates in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

During a press conference, Yadav stated that the Election Commission’s primary role has become facilitating the BJP’s electoral victories through alleged fraudulent practices. He suggested that Gyanesh Kumar has been granted legal protection, which prevents accountability even after leaving office. Yadav pointed out that while presidents may face action post-tenure, the Chief Election Commissioner enjoys immunity after stepping down.

Yadav also raised concerns about recent changes to election-related record-keeping and the selection panel for the Chief Election Commissioner. He noted that the duration for retaining voting records was reduced from one year to just 45 days. Additionally, he criticized the removal of the Chief Justice from the selection panel, replacing him with a central minister. He vowed that the opposition would take these issues to the public and continue their fight.

“We will reach out to the people, fight for justice, and stand against oppression until our last breath,” Yadav declared. He asserted that public dissatisfaction with the government is growing, citing widespread anger among citizens. He questioned the government’s concern for public issues if the integrity of voting is compromised.

Yadav also criticized the state government for its handling of recent floods and crop losses, stating that Bihar is currently facing both flooding and drought conditions. He mentioned that recent rains have severely damaged farmers’ crops, yet no compensation has been provided. Despite multiple letters and discussions with both the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister, he claimed no substantial action has been taken.

He accused the BJP of only remembering the people of Bihar during elections, only to forget them afterward. According to Yadav, the state treasury has been drained to win elections, pushing Bihar into debt. He warned that the situation could worsen in the next six months.

The RJD leader further condemned the government for rising inflation, unemployment, poverty, and crime. He expressed concern that unemployment could exacerbate law and order issues in the future. Criticizing government spending, he noted that over ₹100 crore has been spent on lighting lamps, money that could have provided significant relief to flood victims and farmers.

Yadav claimed that around 5 million people have been affected by the floods, with a significant portion of Bihar impacted. He also targeted Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, stating that the “double-engine” government boasts of development, yet has failed to deliver any tangible benefits to the common people since taking office.
