New Delhi, October 4 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his congratulations to wrestler Antim Panghal and the women’s golf team for their impressive performances at the Asian Games 2026. On October 4, the Prime Minister recognized Panghal for winning the silver medal in the women’s 53 kg freestyle wrestling event, commending her exceptional performance. He shared his message on X, stating, “Antim Panghal’s silver medal at the Asian Games is truly commendable. I hope she continues to bring glory to the nation and inspires other athletes.”
Additionally, Modi congratulated the women’s golf team, which secured a silver medal in the team event. He praised Aditi Ashok, Pranavi Urs, and Diksha Dagar for their unwavering commitment and passion for the sport. “Their success reflects their determination. I hope they reach new heights in the future,” he added.
The Indian contingent’s overall performance at the Asian Games 2026 was mixed. While they achieved success in archery, shooting, cricket, hockey, boxing, golf, wrestling, and athletics, there were disappointments in badminton and volleyball.
India finished fourth in the medal tally at the Games held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, securing a total of 85 medals, including 21 gold, 27 silver, and 38 bronze. The victories of the Indian men’s and women’s cricket and hockey teams, along with the archery team, showcased India’s dominance in sports across Asia. However, the underperformance in badminton raised concerns, as the sport has gained prominence in India recently. The success in golf, however, provided a positive note, with both gold and silver medals earned.
In the previous Asian Games held in Hangzhou in 2023, India had its best-ever performance, winning a total of 107 medals (28 gold, 38 silver, and 41 bronze). This time, the Indian contingent was unable to surpass that remarkable achievement.
