Chennai, May 19: Tamil Nadu’s Health Minister Arunraj announced on Tuesday that the state government has taken measures to ensure that the public does not face any difficulties in accessing medicines during the pharmacy unions’ strike.
Speaking to the media at the Chennai Secretariat, the minister stated that Chief Minister Vijay has issued clear directives to ensure that essential services remain unaffected during the strike.
He confirmed that pharmacies associated with both government and private hospitals will not participate in the strike. Approximately 5,000 medical stores across the state will remain open to ensure that people can easily obtain necessary medications.
The minister also mentioned that drug inspectors have been deployed to monitor and coordinate the arrangements. Discussions have already taken place with pharmacy organizations. In case of emergencies, individuals can contact the drug inspector coordinators for their medication needs.
Regarding the issue of selling medicines through online platforms, Arunraj stated that this decision lies with the central BJP government, and the state government will await further instructions from the center. He emphasized that the availability of emergency medications in the state will not be compromised.
On the topic of AI-based prescriptions and medication details, the minister noted that the government is actively working on this matter and is aware of the developments.
He added that the government is closely monitoring online medicine distribution and will take strict action against any violations of regulations.
Concerning the NEET examination, he reiterated that TVK holds a singular stance: they believe NEET undermines the rights of states. The party has consistently argued that NEET is unnecessary and will continue to demand its removal based on this position.
