Tamil Nadu Chief Minister to Make First Official Visit to New Delhi This Month

Chennai, May 12: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is set to embark on his first official visit to New Delhi at the end of this month. This visit comes after the formation of his government and aims to facilitate high-level meetings with the country’s top leadership.

Sources indicate that Vijay’s two-day trip is likely to occur in the third or last week of May, following the anticipated expansion of the Tamil Nadu cabinet after May 18. The visit has been tentatively planned after the new administration in Chennai completes significant governance tasks and administrative restructuring.

During his proposed trip, Vijay is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu. These meetings are part of the traditional ceremonies held by newly elected chief ministers upon taking office. He may also engage with Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Government and party sources have revealed that the Chief Minister intends to use this visit to formally present the priorities and policy directions of the newly formed TVK-led government to the central leadership. A comprehensive memorandum highlighting Tamil Nadu’s financial needs is also expected to be presented during the meetings. This memorandum will likely include demands related to the release of pending central allocations, outstanding compensation amounts, financial assistance under centrally sponsored schemes, and enhanced support for ongoing welfare initiatives in the state.

Furthermore, discussions between the Tamil Nadu government and the central authorities are anticipated to focus on infrastructure development projects, urban expansion plans, transportation connectivity, industrial investment proposals, and welfare programs.

This visit is considered politically significant as it marks Vijay’s first direct interaction with national leadership following his emergence as a major political force in the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly elections and his assumption of the Chief Minister’s office.
