BJP March in Hari Nagar Demands Accountability for 1984 Violence

A BJP-led march in Hari Nagar calls for justice for victims of the 1984 Sikh massacre, holding Congress accountable for the tragedy.

Hari Nagar, November 1 (Daily Kiran) : A significant march took place in Hari Nagar, New Delhi, on November 1, 2026, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra. The event aimed to demand justice for families affected by the 1984 Sikh massacre and to keep the memories of that tragic event alive.

According to a party statement, thousands of BJP leaders, representatives, and members of the Sikh community participated, expressing solidarity with the victims’ families. The participants called for accountability from Congress and justice for those who have waited decades for redress.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta posed a critical question to those who advocate for democracy while carrying copies of the Constitution. She asked if the events of November 1984 did not constitute a murder of democracy.

“During that horrific period, thousands of Sikh families lost their loved ones. Many mothers, sisters, and families still live with the painful memories of that tragedy, waiting for justice,” Gupta stated.

Targeting Congress leadership, she emphasized that neither Congress nor the Gandhi family could evade responsibility for the atrocities committed against the Sikh community in 1984. Gupta highlighted the repeated violations of democratic values throughout India’s history, referencing the Emergency imposed in 1975 and the violence against Sikhs in 1984. She urged those discussing democracy to first confront the questions about their past actions.

The march in Hari Nagar served as a voice for the thousands of families who lost loved ones in 1984, seeking justice on their behalf.

Harsh Malhotra characterized the 1984 Sikh massacre as a premeditated conspiracy orchestrated by Congress. He alleged that Congress leaders actively participated in identifying Sikh families and facilitating the violence.

Malhotra pointed out that the roles of several Congress leaders, including H.K.L. Bhagat and Sajjan Kumar, have come under scrutiny, as the massacre unfolded over a continuous 72-hour period.

He criticized Rahul Gandhi for allegedly holding an event on the anniversary of the massacre, claiming it exacerbated the pain of the victim families. Malhotra noted that the Special Investigation Team established under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working to ensure justice for those responsible for the 1984 violence.

He announced that another march would take place on Monday near Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, where participants would pay tribute to the victims at a memorial dedicated to the massacre.

Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa accused Rahul Gandhi of politicizing the 1984 Sikh massacre, following in his father’s footsteps.

Arvinder Singh Lovely, chairman of the Yamuna Development Board and a BJP leader, stated that on November 1, 1984, law and order had completely broken down not only in Delhi but across the nation.

Senior advocate Sardar H.S. Phoolka, who has fought a long legal battle for justice for victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh violence, described the brutal killings of retired and serving soldiers during that time as extremely serious and unfortunate.

BJP Rajya Sabha member Vikramjeet Singh Sahni shared that several of his family members were murdered during the violence.

Delhi Minister Ashish Sood expressed concern over the images and mindset promoted by Rahul Gandhi and Congress leaders during their press conference, which he found alarming and incendiary.
