T20 World Cup Final: ICC President Jay Shah Wishes India and New Zealand Good Luck

New Delhi, March 8: The final of the T20 World Cup 2026 is set to take place on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, starting at 7 PM. ICC President Jay Shah has extended his best wishes to both teams.

Shah expressed on X, “This has been a record-breaking T20 World Cup. It has featured many exciting moments, including remarkable performances from our associate members. Now, it’s time to wish India and New Zealand good luck for the final, which will be played in front of a massive crowd and watched by millions.”

The T20 World Cup 2026 has made history, becoming the most-watched edition of the tournament. In India alone, viewership has surpassed 500 million, marking the highest for any T20 World Cup to date.

The ICC’s streaming service, catering to fans in developing regions, set a new streaming record during the Super 8 match between India and the West Indies, surpassing the previous high achieved during the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final.

On social media, the ICC has surpassed 10 billion video views and is on track to exceed the 16 billion views achieved in 2024.

Additionally, the second semifinal between India and England recorded a peak digital concentration of 65.2 million viewers on JioCinema, the highest for any live event globally.

The 2026 edition has seen intense competition and significant upsets. Twenty teams were divided into four groups of five during the group stage, with the top two from each group advancing to the Super 8.

While traditional powerhouses faced early challenges, teams like Zimbabwe, Nepal, and Italy surprised many, leading to the elimination of Australia and Afghanistan in the group stage, and Pakistan in the Super 8.

The Super 8 stage intensified the competition, with the eight qualifying teams—India, Sri Lanka, West Indies, South Africa, England, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, and Pakistan—split into two groups of four. Only the top two teams from each group progressed to the semifinals.

India defeated England, and New Zealand overcame South Africa to secure their spots in the final.
