Rudraprayag, April 27: During the 2026 Kedarnath pilgrimage, local authorities successfully rescued a seriously ill pilgrim. Lakshman Adhikari, a 20-year-old from Nepal, fell ill while on the journey and received initial treatment at the Kedarnath Primary Health Center.
Given the severity of his condition, teams from the NDRF and SDRF acted quickly to transport him safely from the health center to the Kedarnath helipad. He was subsequently referred to the district hospital in Rudraprayag via helicopter. The rescue operation showcased excellent coordination among the administration, health department, and disaster management teams.
District administration officials reported that all teams are on high alert 24/7 to provide immediate assistance in case of emergencies during the pilgrimage. District Magistrate Vishal Mishra stated that he has been stationed in Kedarnath since the temple’s doors opened on April 22, closely monitoring arrangements and the movement of pilgrims. He noted the immense enthusiasm among people across India for this pilgrimage, with approximately 160,000 devotees having visited Kedarnath so far. Given the large number of visitors, some delays are expected, and strict monitoring is in place to ensure smooth operations, particularly at the helipad.
Haridwar District Magistrate Mayur Dixit added, “With the temple’s doors now open, the pilgrimage has gained full momentum. Since offline registrations began on April 17 at Rishikul, over 25,000 pilgrims have registered. Online registration continues, and arrangements have been streamlined for the convenience of all visitors.”
According to a report from the State Emergency Operations Center in Dehradun, by Saturday evening, a total of 238,590 pilgrims had prayed at the revered sites of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Yamunotri, and Gangotri. On the same day, 55,998 pilgrims reached the four sacred shrines, reflecting the growing popularity of the annual pilgrimage.
