Swapan Dasgupta Claims Support from Rasbehari Constituency Amid Election Tensions

Kolkata, March 19: The assembly elections in West Bengal are heating up as the campaign intensifies. Voting will occur in two phases across the state’s 294 assembly seats. The rivalry between the BJP and TMC has escalated, with candidates from both parties actively engaging with voters to garner support. BJP candidate Swapan Dasgupta, contesting from the Rasbehari assembly seat, met with constituents on Wednesday.

In an interview with a news agency, Dasgupta expressed his optimism about local support. “This is a constituency where people welcome a local candidate. I feel fortunate that the residents are with me. Many know I am from here, which is an advantage. However, there is also an atmosphere of fear among some who say, ‘We support you, but we cannot speak openly about it,'” he stated. He emphasized the need to create an environment where people can live without fear.

Dasgupta highlighted the challenges in middle-class areas characterized by high-rise buildings, where voter turnout has been low. “Our goal is to inspire people and remind them that the future of Bengal is at stake. Your future, your children’s future, and that of your grandchildren are all at risk. Please do not treat voting day as just another holiday. I believe people will understand and come out to vote in large numbers,” he urged.

Regarding the Election Commission’s transfers of senior officials, Dasgupta remarked, “It is not my job to delve into minor administrative matters. The Election Commission feels it is necessary to change certain officials to ensure equal opportunities for all. They seek a fair administration, and there must be records indicating that these officials were unable to perform their duties effectively.”
