New Delhi, July 15: The Supreme Court has raised concerns regarding the ongoing issues faced by students with the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) digital copy evaluation system (OSM). The court noted that students are experiencing persistent difficulties, leading to significant frustration and despair that cannot be overlooked.
A bench led by Chief Justice Suryakant has requested Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to assist in addressing this matter. The court emphasized that the government should not perceive this issue as mere opposition. It seeks a permanent solution to the problems at hand. Solicitor General Mehta informed the court that most of the personal cases related to students’ mark sheets mentioned in the petition have been resolved.
The government is taking the flaws in the copy evaluation process seriously. A one-member committee, chaired by S. Radha Chauhan, has been established to review the entire system and provide recommendations for improvement. The court has directed the government to submit a status report on this matter. The next hearing is scheduled for next week.
The petition filed by Rakesh Binjola demands the establishment of transparent and clear rules for the CBSE copy evaluation process. It also calls for the formation of a high-powered committee to oversee these rules. Students who have passed university or college entrance exams or have received provisional admission should be exempt from the board’s minimum score requirements.
Earlier, the Supreme Court issued notices to the central government, CBSE, and the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) regarding new petitions challenging CBSE’s revised three-language policy. The court has requested all parties to submit their responses within two weeks. The bench, comprising Chief Justice Suryakant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, and Justice V. Mohan, has scheduled a detailed hearing for July 29.
