Sudan Foreign Minister Praises PM Modi’s Leadership, Congratulates Indian People

New Delhi: Sudan’s Foreign Minister, Mohieldin Salim Ahmed Ibrahim, arrived in India to participate in the second India-Arab Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. During his visit, he held detailed discussions on the ongoing crisis in Sudan and the measures being taken to ensure the safety of civilians. He also expressed appreciation for the leadership of India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing the Sudan crisis and civilian protection efforts, Mohieldin Salim Ahmed Ibrahim said, “We have taken several important decisions on this matter and are working closely with the United Nations. High-ranking UN officials have visited and engaged directly with the people, which reflects our government’s commitment to our citizens’ welfare.”

Since April 2023, Sudan has been engulfed in a civil war that has resulted in numerous civilian casualties and forced many families to flee their homes. The country continues to face prolonged unrest and instability.

Speaking highly of PM Modi, the Sudanese minister remarked, “I congratulate you on having a Prime Minister who cares deeply for his people and consistently strives to create new opportunities for them. His repeated electoral victories are a testament to this commitment.”

India is set to host the second India-Arab Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on Saturday, co-hosted with the UAE. Foreign ministers from other Arab League member states and the League’s Secretary-General will also attend.

The meeting follows the fourth India-Arab Senior Officials Meeting held on Friday. The India-Arab Foreign Ministers’ Meeting aims to strengthen existing cooperation and enhance partnership between the regions.

Notably, this is the first India-Arab Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in a decade; the initial meeting took place in Bahrain in 2016. During that inaugural meeting, leaders identified five key areas of collaboration: energy, economy, education, media, and culture, and proposed several initiatives.

The Ministry of External Affairs stated, “The India-Arab Foreign Ministers’ Meeting is the largest institutional mechanism to advance this partnership. It was formalised in March 2002 when India and the League of Arab States signed an MoU to institutionalise the dialogue process.”
