New Delhi, May 13: External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar described his meeting with South African Foreign Minister Ronald Lamola as productive. The discussion focused on enhancing the strategic partnership, addressing multilateral issues, and strengthening institutional cooperation between the two nations.
In a post on the social media platform X, Minister Jaishankar expressed his pleasure at meeting Minister Lamola. He stated, “This evening, I was happy to meet South African Foreign Minister Ronald Lamola. We reviewed various aspects of our strategic partnership and discussed multilateral issues of mutual interest. We agreed on the need to enhance our dialogue through institutional mechanisms.”
Minister Lamola arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday to participate in the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the foreign ministers will arrive at Bharat Mandapam at 10 AM on May 14, followed by the commencement of the first session at 10:30 AM. A joint meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take place at ‘Seva Teerth’ at 1 PM.
The second session will begin at 3:10 PM, and a dinner hosted by Minister Jaishankar will be held at Bharat Mandapam at 7 PM. The next day, May 15, the third session will start at 10 AM.
Earlier, Minister Jaishankar met with his Chilean counterpart, Francisco Pérez Mackenna, on Wednesday. During their bilateral talks, both leaders discussed ways to strengthen cooperation across various sectors.
Minister Jaishankar shared details on social media, stating, “My meeting with Chilean Foreign Minister Francisco Pérez Mackenna was positive. We discussed diversifying markets and supply sources, promoting exports of priority products, and facilitating the service economy.” He added, “We also agreed to work together on multilateral and multi-country platforms.”
