Smart Cooking: The Key to Better Health

New Delhi, June 26: In today’s fast-paced world, prioritizing health is essential for everyone. However, it is crucial to understand that good health relies not only on nutritious food but also on how we prepare it. By adopting smart cooking habits, we can make our meals more nutritious, delicious, and beneficial for our health. Small precautions while cooking can help protect us from various diseases in the long run.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Government of India recently highlighted on the social media platform X that controlling the amount of oil used in cooking is vital. Many people tend to add oil without measuring, leading to excessive fat in their meals. Therefore, always use a spoon to measure oil. This practice ensures the correct amount is used and helps avoid extra calories. Meals prepared with less oil are better for the heart and reduce the risk of obesity, high blood pressure, and cholesterol-related issues.

Another important habit is to avoid consuming deep-fried foods frequently. While fried items may be tasty, they are often high in fat and calories. Regular consumption of samosas, pakoras, chips, puris, or other fried foods can increase the risk of obesity, diabetes, and heart diseases. If you do indulge in fried food, it should be in limited quantities and only occasionally. Fresh fruits, green vegetables, lentils, and whole grains should take precedence in daily meals.

Choosing the right cooking methods is also crucial for a healthy lifestyle. Instead of frying, steaming, roasting, boiling, or grilling is more beneficial. Steamed vegetables retain more vitamins and minerals, while grilled or roasted foods require less oil and still taste great. Similarly, lightly sautéed or boiled dishes are considered better for digestion.

Additionally, using fresh ingredients, avoiding overcooking, and limiting salt and sugar are all part of smart cooking. Home-cooked meals are always safer and more nutritious compared to outside junk food.
