Etawah, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : In a significant operation, Etawah police apprehended six members of the notorious Pankhiya gang, including its leader, following an encounter in the Ikdil area on Tuesday. Authorities seized firearms, ammunition, gold, silver, cash, a car, and mobile phones from the suspects.
SSP Brijesh Kumar Srivastava announced that this operation marks a major success in the ongoing crackdown against crime. The arrests were made through a coordinated effort involving the Special Operations Group (SOG), surveillance teams, and local police. All six suspects hail from the Badaun district.
The police recovered 136 grams of gold, 1,321 grams of silver biscuits, and 307 grams of silver jewelry. Additionally, they found ₹32,250 in cash, two illegal firearms, and a large quantity of ammunition. The vehicle used in a burglary on August 7 in the Ikdil area was also seized, along with one mobile phone.
The SSP revealed that the arrested individuals have extensive criminal records. They face numerous charges across several districts, including Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Muzaffarnagar, Sitapur, Lucknow, Firozabad, Kushinagar, Kannauj, Fatehgarh, Pilibhit, and Bareilly. These charges range from theft and burglary to armed robbery, attempted murder, and violations under the Gangster Act.
The suspects confessed to stealing gold and silver jewelry, as well as cash, during the burglary on August 7 in the Ikdil area. They also admitted to another theft from the Gayatri Shakti Peeth in the Usahait area.
SSP Srivastava noted that these cases presented significant challenges. The successful arrests were a result of hard work by the surveillance and SOG teams. As a reward for their efforts, the entire police team involved will receive a bonus of ₹25,000.
