Dewas, August 2: Central Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan conducted a review of development projects in Dewas district, Madhya Pradesh, on Saturday. He announced several measures aimed at enhancing agriculture, rural development, irrigation, health, and employment.
While chairing the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (Disha) meeting, the minister revealed a comprehensive agricultural plan designed to boost farmers’ incomes in Dewas.
He stated, “After studying the district’s soil, climate, water availability, and local conditions, we have developed a roadmap for agriculture. This will improve farming practices and increase farmers’ earnings.”
Chouhan emphasized that the state government would promote better seeds, suitable crops, horticulture, and food processing through farmer producer organizations.
Additionally, he announced a target to increase the number of ‘Lakhsapati Didis’ (wealthy women) in Dewas from approximately 35,000 to 72,000.
Women will be linked to self-help groups, provided with skill training, and assisted in obtaining easy loans from banks for self-employment.
The meeting also reviewed irrigation and drinking water projects, including the Chipaner Lift Irrigation Scheme and the Maa Rewa Lift Irrigation Scheme.
Chouhan mentioned that work on a major irrigation project would commence soon after receiving forest clearance. He directed officials to address delays in drinking water projects in the Khategaon area.
Development work in villages will be conducted under the ‘Developed India: Employment and Livelihood Guarantee Mission (Rural)’ scheme, prioritizing local needs.
The minister also announced a three-month campaign to ensure that all eligible individuals, including those over 70, receive Ayushman Bharat health cards.
He affirmed, “We are committed to making Dewas free from tuberculosis and malnutrition. Special campaigns will be launched to provide treatment and nutritional support, ensuring that every eligible person benefits from government schemes.”
Chouhan added that the state government would focus on skill development and employment by training youth and assisting them in obtaining bank loans for self-employment.
The meeting was attended by elected representatives and officials from various departments, who reviewed the progress of central government schemes and other development projects in the district.
