Thane, September 30 (Daily Kiran) : In a shocking incident in Thane, Maharashtra, Pradeep Purnekar, the local head of the Shiv Sena-UBT in the Manpada area, was shot and killed on Tuesday night. Purnekar had recently announced plans for a significant protest against alleged misconduct by a local builder, raising concerns about the motivations behind his murder.
The attack occurred near Purnekar’s office in the Manorama Nagar locality. Reports indicate that unidentified assailants opened fire on him, hitting him with two bullets. He was rushed to the hospital for treatment, but despite the doctors’ efforts, he could not be saved.
Initial investigations revealed that Purnekar was wearing a helmet and mask at the time of the attack. However, the attackers were able to recognize him and fired multiple shots. Additionally, as he was being taken to the hospital, another individual reportedly attacked him with a sharp weapon, leading to further severe injuries. He was later declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
It has been reported that Purnekar was preparing to lead a protest against the alleged misdeeds of a local builder and had sought permission from the Kapurbawdi police station for the demonstration. The timing of the attack has raised numerous questions about its connection to the upcoming protest or the builder dispute.
While police have not yet confirmed whether the murder was linked to the protest or the builder’s actions, they have intensified their investigation in the area following the incident. Authorities are reviewing footage from nearby CCTV cameras to identify the assailants and trace their escape route.
Law enforcement officials are exploring various angles in their investigation, including the number of attackers, the type of weapons used, and the direction in which the perpetrators fled after the crime.
