New Delhi, July 20: The Shinde faction has welcomed the Lok Sabha Speaker’s recognition of the merger of six rebel MPs from Shiv Sena (UBT) into the Shinde-led Shiv Sena. They view this as a sign of weakness for the party led by Uddhav Thackeray and a triumph for Eknath Shinde’s progressive politics.
On Saturday, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla approved the merger of the six MPs into Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena. This decision, made ahead of the Parliament’s monsoon session, legitimizes their party switch under the anti-defection law. Consequently, these six MPs will now be considered part of the Shinde faction rather than Thackeray’s group.
In response to this decision, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam stated that the Lok Sabha Speaker’s order clarifies that the decision was made within constitutional boundaries. He emphasized, “These six MPs have not taken any unlawful steps. The law grants them the right to join any party if they have a two-thirds majority.”
Targeting Uddhav Thackeray, he remarked that public trust in Thackeray’s leadership has waned. Nirupam stated, “The party is continuously shrinking, breaking apart, and disintegrating. In their attempts to save their party, they are merely reciting the ‘Ram Raksha Stotra’.”
He accused Thackeray’s party of abandoning its core Hindutva ideology and allying with groups that oppose their beliefs. He claimed that the party has severed ties with Lord Ram.
He added, “Reciting the ‘Ram Raksha Stotra’ while being with Ram’s opponents is akin to Ravana praising Lord Ram.”
Another Shiv Sena leader, Shaina NC, also supported the recognition of the rebel MPs. She stated that this demonstrates increasing confidence in Eknath Shinde’s progressive politics. She urged Shiv Sena (UBT) to consider why its leaders and workers are consistently joining their party.
