Lucknow, April 8: Tensions in the region have eased following U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement to postpone military strikes against Iran for two weeks. This decision coincided with Tehran’s signals to reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. Shia leaders have claimed that global powers like the U.S. and Israel have been compelled to retreat.
Maulana Yasub Abbas, General Secretary of the All India Shia Personal Law Board, stated, “Today, after 40 days, justice has prevailed. History shows that Islam has faced numerous attacks and yet emerged victorious. Iran remains victorious today.”
He added, “Iran has established control over the Strait of Hormuz, drawing global attention. Today, superpowers like the U.S. and Israel have had to bow down. Just yesterday, Trump claimed that Iran’s civilization would be destroyed, but within 24 hours, a ceasefire was announced. I congratulate all Muslims and members of the Shia community on this development.”
Syed Saif Abbas Naqvi, President of the Shia Markazi Chand Committee, also praised the Iranian people. He remarked, “We congratulate the brave people of Iran. When Trump threatened to devastate the country, citizens took to the streets to protect critical infrastructure like bridges and power stations.”
He further stated, “They stood firm, showing that they fear no death and will emerge victorious. As I have said before, Israel and the United States initiated the aggression, but Iran did not back down. Ultimately, Trump was forced to retreat.”
Meanwhile, Israel expressed support for the U.S. decision to suspend military action against Iran, clarifying that the proposed two-week ceasefire does not apply to Lebanon.
Earlier in the day, Iran indicated its willingness to halt military responses on the condition that attacks against it cease. It also announced the temporary reopening of the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz for two weeks.
In a statement, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi noted that this development comes amid ongoing ceasefire talks, suggesting a potential reduction in current tensions.
