Sheikh Hasina Highlights Bangladeshs Struggles Amid Eid Celebrations

Dhaka, May 27: Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh extended Eid-ul-Azha greetings to the nation, emphasizing that this year’s festival arrives during a time of “deep crisis and hardship” for the people.

The Awami League shared her message on the social media platform X, where Hasina expressed sorrow over the “pain and suffering” faced by citizens.

She stated, “Over the past 21 months, our party leaders and activists have faced continuous violence, attacks, and false cases, with many still imprisoned. It is not just political activists who are suffering; ordinary citizens are also enduring significant hardships.”

Hasina voiced concerns over the rising deaths of children, increasing violence against women and children, deteriorating law and order, and a weakening economy.

She noted, “Hundreds of children are succumbing to measles, brutal violence persists, and women and girls are facing coercion. The state of law and order is dire, and the economy has plunged the country into despair.”

In her message, she remarked that Eid-ul-Azha conveys a message of “sacrifice and dedication,” expressing hope that this spirit will empower people to move forward during these challenging times.

Hasina added, “Even in these adverse circumstances, this festival inspires us to pursue the path of truth and remain committed to necessary sacrifices for the nation’s welfare.”

Recently, the Awami League alleged that attacks on its members have been escalating, creating an atmosphere of violence in various parts of the country. The party claimed that crimes against women and children have also surged, deepening feelings of insecurity among the populace.

According to the Awami League, the harsh reality is that anyone associated with our party who does not engage in wrongdoing becomes a target. Incidents of violence are on the rise.

Earlier this month, the party asserted that, similar to 2025, there has been an increase in violent incidents against women and children this year, attributing this to government failures.

Pointing to widespread institutional failures behind the violence, the Awami League stated, “This is no longer just a ‘women’s issue.’ It indicates a decline in governance, the justice system, and the moral fabric of the nation.”
